In 1970, after the UAE Government liberalized trade procedures to develop the economy, Mr. Moolchand recognized the potential to import and retail readymade garments within the UAE, and established ‘Tip Top Fashions’ – the Group’s flagship retail store. During the same period, the UAE Government felicitated the efforts of Mr. Moolchand, by issuing exclusive licenses (under the industrial name of ‘Gulab Stores’) to fully own and operate business within the territory, without the federal requirement of local partner.
Over a period of 10 years, the Group capitalized on the demand for high quality apparel, merchandizing largely from Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Germany, France, Italy and India. While the turnover multiplied by about 200 times during this period, Mr. Moolchand created a niche for the business in the market, by offering a range of apparel which would cater to the tastes of both the local market, and the demands of the European expatriates living in the country.
Realizing the importance of integrating successful product lines and promoting cross selling, during the late 1980’s, the Group introduced the sales of quality footwear, sourced out from France, Germany, Italy, the Far East and India. This led them to develop a segment in the Industry which was at an infant stage. Since then, the Group has been the sole distributor, while simultaneously retailing the shoes of the largest Indian leather manufacturer and established brand- Action Shoes, Bata, Columbus Sports, Hitz, - which caters to the low and middle income group, along with prominent brands like Reebok, Nike, Adidas, Sketchers, Cat, Timberland , Lumberjack, Sebago, Fitflop, Hushpuppies and Westland in both footwear and apparel.
